#Dementia cases ‘set to treble worldwide’ by #2050

The #BBC has just carried this story at lunchtime today.

Whilst the numbers with #Dementia seem to go up and down with every report, my focus is on how we can help the carers – the understand more about what is happening to their loved ones, to look after their own health and improve the quality of life for themselves and those they care for.

This group of #carers seems to be the forgotten army of people, without whose untiring commitment the situation would be a lot worse.  These are the relatives, friends, neighbours, support workers, shop workers, etc who interact with those with Dementia.  The #UK government announced more screening of carers for #mental health; we want to give these invaluable people more skills to understand what is happening and what simple things they can do to improve the quality of life for everyone.

There is an ebook that will get you started www.dementia.simpleskills.co.uk.  It will be mailed to you in short installments and is full of practical information.

Then you can access the recordings of the on-line conferenceClick here to listen to the introduction to the conference.    9 hours of valuable material for every #carer; simple self-care that can make a real difference, prevention, very practical legal information, the importance of community, and so much more.  Click here for the list of presenters and details of their discussions.
