Overcoming Dyslexia: Just a start

I want to change the focus of #learningdifficulties away from the individual having a deficit to offering our teachers and parents the best skills to enable our exceptionally talented, creative and imaginative children to learn in a way that works best for them.

#Mentalimagery has been used for decades  in sport to achieve excellence and completely ignored by the education system.  Teachers are taught to show children pictures; this is visual teaching but unless you ask the child, you have no idea how they are storing this information; this is visual learning and the qualities of your mental images are 95% of visual learning.

Once you have improved the quality of your mental images and become consciously aware of your own experience you can use them for all aspects of learning; literacy, numeracy, concentration, comprehension, revision etc.

It is a crime not to teach these skills in primary school.

Some children will pick them up naturally whilst others flounder around in a sea of confusion, entering a downward spiral of more and more learning difficulties; whether or not they are formally diagnosed. Our children become stressed to hell, their behaviour deteriorates, their self esteem vanishes.  If you are lucky some become resilient to all the bullying and feeling stupid to go onto greatness like #RichardBranson, #JamieOliver, Einstein, #JackieStewart and many more like those people featured in the recent film “#The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia”. But there millions worldwide who are not so lucky, flounder around in frustration and confusion, and some resorting to suicide when they feel stupid or are being bullied.

It doesn’t have to be like this, we have evidence. so just sign up to this chanel, we are going to blow up some of the myths around #Dyslexia.  Join us and tell your friends.

Do you know who I can contact re the big picture-where it is going to be screened etc. I’ve tried contacting the producer but have heard nothing. I would like to show this to our dyslexia group in Swansea South Wales.

Jennifer, I went to the premier and was asked to apply for a copy and show it freely. Today when I chased I havebeen told that if it is to be used fir educational purposes the price is £150. With such a film I can’t imagine that the audience would not be interested in being educated.

I was speaking at the Marlborought Dyslexia Associaation last night to a crowd who were very interested in the work we are doing to enable dyslexics how to learn simple skills to overcome many of the negative symptoms of dyslexia, through mental imagery. I have a few practitioners in Wales who I am sure would be pleased to come and talk with your group. So many people said last night that it had given them different ways of looking at the challenges they and their family members face.

All the best; you are welcome to mail me olive@empoweringlearning.co.uk
