We maybe years or decades away from having a real understanding about why Dementia, in all its forms, happens and how to best help those who painstakingly care for their loved ones. Meanwhile it is the number 1 health challenge of our time and there are thousands of people, who through their own experience may be able to contribute tiny parts of the overall jig-saw puzzle.
During #Dementia Awareness week, The International Association for Health and Learning is bringing together a number of specialist speakers who can contribute to some New Perspectives on Dementia for those people who are carers or concerned about their own ageing. In addition there will be an open forum where delegates will be able to contribute their own first hand knowledge to assist others. It is our belief that carers are the true experts in this field and have much to offer each other.
Whether you are a professional carer, a friend or family member caring for a loved one, there will be much for everyone. All you need is a computer connection and you can listen to the teleseminars in your own time, live or from a recording.
On-line Telesummit: New Perspectives on #Dementia: 19th-24th May
Each session will be 1 hour and be recorded, so if you are not available to listen at the time you can listen later. Each session will include a discussion for 45 minutes, followed by 15 min question and answer. You can access the teleseminar through your computer or the telephone. Those using a computer will be able to contribute to the question and answer session in each teleseminar.
New Perspectives on Dementia is an on-line sharing telesummit and hence priced for everyone. For any queries please mail olive@tiahl.org.
The sessions will cover very practical topics, such as:
- Maintaining the carers’ health
- Navigating the complex world of care and support
- Insights for carers: Living in different time zones
- The Importance of Community
- Choosing the right care home
- How positive emotions can effect the person with Dementia
- The importance of self-care
- Could it be possible to prevent Dementia?
