Henry Winkler of ‘Fonzy’ fame, latterly of dyslexia fame

I read his first book and it is about how great the character is at seeing things differently, and how rubbish he is at spelling, school work etc. When I heard him on the radio he said after he reads to a class they all want to be dyslexic.  This initially made me think that he was almost encouraging people to be dyslexic, but actually there is another way of looking at this – he is encouraging people to have the skill to see a different perspective and not feel bad about it.  We need lots of people like that.  And those we have taught about visual spelling can encourage them to get over any symptoms of confusion with literacy  that are caused by taking a different perspective on words!
